After you die, there are a few days that you´re physically still among us. You are not functioning like you did before you are only here to look at, to be showed to the people who are leaving behind.
When a deceased is being showed, we like to make him look like he was when he was alive. Lipps are being glued together, wadding is put in the mouth, caps are put behind the eyelids, make-up and hair spray are fixing the color of the skin. Trying to postpone the acceptance of the death.
Without making the deceased look like he was when being alive, we have to accept the death. Because it´s hard to look at someone you loved being changed, the body can be covered in cloths. The natural fall of the fabric around the body still shows the bodyshape of the person laying underneath. With showing recognizable parts, like skin, eyes, mouth, hands, body figure, we can still feel the presence of the person. Allready we start with letting go and accepting.

De sharp corners of a conventional table are replaced by a bowing.
When the tableware is standing on the table it’s like they are on their way, going from one place to another, crossing the impassable landscape of legs and feet under the table.
It accentuates the distance a table creates while standing in between several people.
SLIPPERCARPET

Carpet for restaurant ´de Witte Tafel´ in Eindhoven. In the colt wintertime we like to take our shoes of and enjoy diner wearing warm slippers.
The slippers are placed in certain positions to make the feet of everyone who´s taking place at the table touch each other a little bit. The physical contact that is inappropriate above the table is taking place under the table.
